| Aurifil Thread and Quilters Dream Puff batting |
I have been free motion quilting for less than two years. And I'd like to think that I'm getting proficient at it, but I'm ready to push my skills a little more this year. I think that means looking at different batting and quilting with thread that highlights the quilting by blending into the fabric. I tend to quilt with contrasting thread, really a lot easier to see where I've been. But I want texture for one of my next quilts. So I tried out a new batting that I heard about at my last guild meeting, Quilters Dream Puff.

It was fun quilting up this little doodle. I think this combination is going to work great on my Elephant quilt. The only problem is I have to get the quilt together so I can get to the fun part - FMQ!

ReplyDeleteVery nice. I just finished my first quilt with Quilters Dream Request cotton batting. Love it. My needle went through it like it was going through butter. They make a nice product. Not the cheapest though.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful motif, and I think the combination of fabric thread and THAT batting is going to give you a lot of loft and an almost trapunto look.

I've never tried FMQ with such a thick batting. Typically, if I want a trapunto effect, I will FMQ one layer of bat to where I want the additional thickness, then cut away around the object. Then I add the batting and backing and do the additional FMQ, making sure to just outline the object I want extra puffy. It adds an interesting dimension to have a thicker bat like this, though... I might have to try it. Nice work on your motif as well!

ReplyDeleteFabulous! Love your doodle style. Thanks for the tip on Quilter's Dream puff...I will check it out. I love using Quilter's Dream Batting, but flat it is. so this might be something to have on hand for special needs.
