Celebrating the Transition from Summer to Fall

To my American friends, Happy Labor Day! Before I head off to a family picnic, I thought I would share my progress so far on my Layers quilt. I hope I'm not boring you all, but it really is the only thing I've worked on this month.

I asked for some suggestions of what to quilt on the side borders. I got some fabulous ideas. I decided on following the "layers" from the center block out, but I didn't know if I should stitch them in a matching taupe or some other color. So I stitched up a sample.

Sample (left to right) darker taupe, orange, navy, matching taupe. I decided on the matching taupe thread that I had been using on the straight line quilting. I felt it would get texture without taking away from the blocks.

It's very overcast today, so I laid the quilt out on my king sized bed (this quilt is queen sized), because the light is better in this room.
I got all of the borders added. Now to continue quilting.

I really like my choice.

I have been going through miles of Aurifil thread. Luckily, I've used many different colors so I haven't run out yet. I am pretty low on several of the colors. I guess I've gotta order some more. I really wish one of my local quilt shops would stock the complete range of colors. Only two shops even carry a limited supply of Aurifil and they are both close to 50 miles away!

I'm linking up with Lily's Quilts for Fresh Sewing Day September. Tomorrow linking with A Quilt Story for Fabric Tuesday and Free Motion by the River for Linky Tuesday.
