I think we like that there are no patterns to match or try to get in the right orientation. And also that the design can speak louder without the competition from the patterns.

ReplyDeleteI never cared for solids until I started learning free motion quilting. The solids show the quilting so beautifully and the quilting doesn't get lost in the fabric pattern. Love your rainbow array!

ReplyDeleteI like playing solid colors off of the prints in my quilts. It seems to make the prints "pop" when placed next to a solid color.

A wonderful bundle, thank you! I use solids to help keep the distraction down. Prints are great, but if you have too many in a quilt it gets so confusing. So we need a resting place for our eyes. I think many quilters feel the same way :)

With these solid, it could be possible to make a kind of rainbow... I think solids are sometimes the best choice when wanting to play with colors !

I made a bracelet display snake out of rainbow solids (just sewed together the solid pieces into a long tube and stuffed it and then put the friendship bracelets that I sell around the "snake") It turned out so bold that I get more compliments on the rainbow snake than on the bracelets sometimes hehehe

ReplyDeleteI think solids are great because they have a versatility that prints don't. It's the same in clothing and also knitting. Those patterns are so great but they're more challenging to figure out what to do with.

ReplyDeleteSolids are an excellent way to enhance printed fabric and they provide a relaxing transition to the next print.
ReplyDeleteFor me "modern" quilting is predominantly an experiment in overall quilt design where the form of the elements, their color, the way they interact in a "negative" space make the quilt. To emphasize form, the choice of solids seems a very logical one.
Personally I love solids and the actual range of colors we can buy is a wonderful thing!
Solids can be anything. Modern, classic, retro, country. I love them.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great site! I'm new to the site. I love using solids to make any patterns, either in other fabrics or in the design itself stand out as much as possible. Accenting with solids can provide such a great relief to the eyes.
ReplyDeleteOne thing about solids is there is no surprise about how it will look...so many times I cut into a patterned fabric and say, eek, it doesnt give the same look now. And they do set off the pattern I use really well.
