Basting in the Breeze!

Wow, the weather here has been spectacular for March in central NY, it was 70 degrees  (F). Since it was so nice I decided to baste my quilt out on the deck, easier to set up the folding tables (my knees just don't like basting on the floor).

My very helpful hubby!

I spray baste my quilts

Expanding Possibilities quilt basted and ready to quilt!
I'm going to have to start some serious gardening, if this weather keeps up! In the mean time, since I finished this cute little pin cushion with tutorial and finished basting this quilt, I'm going to link up with TGIFF (Thank Goodness Its Finished Friday) at the Nifty Stitcher.

Once Upon a Time: A Story Book Quilt

It feels good to get back to a quilt project and I've been thinking about this one since I threw it up on my design board a few weeks ago. With that 1001 Peeps fabric, it just said story time. So I found some cute embroidery to go with it and started last night.
I have several other sayings to add in to this quilt. (The design is from Embroidery Library)

I like how the colors go together.

Unfortunately it puckered as it stitched, so I will have to redo. But I like the colors and I think if I set a basting stitch around the edge and put a second layer of stabilizer, it will be fine next time.
So I guess I can say I'm happy to be back making a quilt!

Beautiful Day for Basting

What a glorious day we had here yesterday; seventy-eight degrees and sunny. I should have been gardening!  But I decided to baste my cubic rhythm quilt that I finished back in July! There are three methods, that I know of, to baste your quilt.

1. Hand baste - time consuming and your free motion foot gets caught in the thread. Then after you are all done, you have to pull out all of the basting.

2. Pin baste - time consuming, can't sew over the pins and you have to remove the pins as you go.

3. Spray baste - my favorite!  Fairly fast and nothing to remove. AND I did it out on the deck yesterday!

I used three tables, I think next I would like to use 4 folding tables. This quilt is 65 inches square. Laying it out on the tables sure beats laying it out on the living room floor!  Now all I have to do it figure out how I'm going to quilt it.  I think something to do with flowers and feathers!

Well, Color Me Quilty!
