WIP Wednesday

I've made a bit of progress on my Tree quilt. I love the texture from the fine 50wt Aurifil thread (#5004, my go to grey thread) and the Quilters Dream Wool batting. I finished the "leaves" section and I'm on to the "stacked logs" section.

I think my spirals in different sizes could be interpreted as stacked logs??!!  I do like how this quilt is turning out, I am having fun quilting it.

Since I haven't linked up to WIP Wednesday in a while, it will be fun to see if I've made any progress at all. Well, not much!!!  I have worked on the Mod Ovals Quilt since the last time I linked up, but I haven't finished anything. I really need to get going. The problem is how much gardening I have to do. Yikes this spring was so late, now I'm late getting it all done.

Here are this week's stats:
In-process: (5)
Express Your Love
Humphrey's New Bed
Mod Ovals Quilt
Pantone Quilt 2014
Tree Quilt

Blogger's Quilt Festival, Spring 2014 (Modern)

 A Modern Quilt!

I actually made this quilt last year as part of the Art Glass Gallery Challenge with an Angela Walters panel from her Textures line of fabric. The quilt didn't really have a known destination or reason for being except for completing the challenge. So I gave it to my husband, because there were no flowers or swirls and he liked the colors. So it sits folded over the back of a chair in my living room, unless it's chilly, then my husband wraps up in it.

This past Christmas we had new family members join are Christmas Eve party; my new son-in-law's mom, dad and sister. They fell in love with this quilt. They never realized that quilts could be modern and fun and fit in with today's styles.

Just recently, I received the nicest note from my son-in-law's mom asking I would consider making this quilt again for her daughter for Christmas, offering to pay for it. She knows that I have a rule that I don't sell my quilts. It's hard to ask what they are really worth; fabric, thread, batting and time!

It takes quite a bit of time to quilt a quilt like this.
Aurifil Thread 50wt used on the quilt. Quilted with a domestic machine; Pfaff Quilters Expression 4.0

This is the back of the quilt, I used the same color in both the top and the bobbin.

Faux Piped Binding (check out the tutorial here)

My husband has been generous and said that "we" could give her this quilt for Christmas and I could make him a new quilt. That's probably what I'm going to do. It has been quite an ego boost to have a young 30 something professional (my son-in-law's sister) really want one of my quilts.

The quilt is 54" x 63", Art Glass Gallery fabrics (Textures by Angela Walters), Quilters Dream Puff batting and lots and lots of Aurifil 50wt thread. The design is my own.

FMQ Friday

I love FMQ Friday, it motivates me to get into my sewing room when there are so many other things that try and pull me in other directions.

Last night I worked on my Tree quilt. I thought that surrounding my trees with leaves would be appropriate for this quilt. This motif is very similar to Leah Day's Flowing Leaves.

I even like how it looks on the back!

So even though Leah doesn't have a link up this week, it still inspired me to get quilting.

Free Motion Friday

I love Free Motion Fridays and it feels good to finally be back at it. I was able to get a little work done on my Tree quilt. I did some stitch in the ditch work, which is hardly worth showing, but I also got some swirls done.

I'm hoping that the swirls look like stacked wood, the cut ends. Well, maybe in a simplistic way.

I think tomorrow they are calling for rain, perfect to do a little more quilting. Today I'm linking up with the lovely Leah at the Free Motion Project for the Free Motion Quilting Project Link Up

I'm Back and Starting to Quilt Again

Wow, I guess I needed the time to get myself organized. I haven't been sewing much, I have been working on a lifestyle change. I have gotten up and walked for 30 minutes every morning before breakfast, just under 2 miles (about 4200 steps). My goal has been to walk 10000 steps a day (just under 5 miles). So for the last two weeks, I've walked nearly 30 miles each week. The detox diet has helps so much, I've lost about 16 lbs. and three inches off my waist. It's a Paleo lifestyle. The best part is that I'm no longer hungry all the time, that is a wonderful feeling. The only downside is that it takes some time to get used to the new routine, taking time from my quilting.

So finally, I've gotten a little sewing done, working on my Mod Ovals (olives). I like it so far.
These blocks are fun, but do take a bit of time to cut and stitch. I'm looking forward to spending some quality time in my sewing room.

I'm linking up today to Anything Goes Monday at Bobbins and Bullets
