Still Behind, but Working Right Along

I love WIP and QAL Wednesdays because they push me to keep quilting. I don't always get everything done, but my goal is to have something to talk about on Wednesdays.

This week, I did get some more done on my wonky/improv quilt that I'm making for Leah Day's QAL Wednesday project. I finished the front and back of the quilt, but I when to get batting from my batting supply and realized I didn't have what I needed. And I didn't have a chance to get to the store for more.

So I switched over to start quilting on a quilt that basted eons ago, my Expanding Possibilities quilt.
I've stitched in the ditch across the major sections. Now the question is how to quilt it?
Large white areas

Center section surrounded with dimensional flying geese.

The chevron sections.
So my question for Leah this week is about balancing stitch density across my Expanding Possibilities quilt.  In the white areas of this quilt I would like to stitch a somewhat dense design.
This was my Sew Cal Gal FMQ Challenge for April - and practice piece for this quilt.
For the center section (squiggly lines part) I would quilt something a little less dense and then on the chevron section and around the flying geese just stitch in the ditch.

So the quilting would alternate dense, loose, dense sections, etc. across the quilt. Will that work or should I aim to quilt the same density on the whole thing? (I hope these makes sense :O  )

Since these two projects are all I worked on this week, my stats are:

In-process: (8)
Wonky/Improve QAL quilt - front and back complete
Purple heart wall hanging ( needs borders, backing, quilting and binding)
Expanding Possibilities quilt (Continue to quilt)
Storybook quilt # 2 - All embroidery is done
Quokka Quilts QAYGFMQQAL quilt (All 30 blocks are quilted, need to join and bind)
Geneva Public Library quilt - join and quilt (maybe make a block or two to even it out)

Sew Cal Gal's April FMQ Challenge - Need to make into a pillow.
Sew Cal Gal's May FMQ Challenge - Need to make into a pillow

  2. Love your expanding possibilities geese! I didn't think that I would like the plain Leah Day FMQalong quilt because it was so plain. Yours looks awesome!

  3. I understand your dilemma--for a wall or decorative quilt, it's easy to quilt a very dense design, but not so much on a bed quilt that you actually want to use--it's way too stiff. Deciding on a quilt design is something I always struggle with, I would say go with what YOU like, not what you think you "should" do.

  7. Looking forward to seeing how you finish both of these. It is tough when we don't have the supplies handy so have to switch gears....
