WIP Wednesday

I did it. I finished joining (QAYG) my guild's benefit quilt on Saturday. That was a big job, but rewarding. I'm quite pleased how it turned out.

 I think this quilt turned out amazing, especially with no planning other that the emotions surrounding cancer. The Ithaca Modern Quilt Guild has some seriously talented members. I love them all!

I think I like the back almost as much as the front, just different.

The Cancer Resource Center Quilt

Well, my part is complete! I think it turned out nice.

Each block was created, pieced and quilted by members of the Ithaca Modern Quilt Guild. I joined the blocks with QAYG methods. The theme was the emotions around cancer. The quilt is for the benefit show at the Hangar Theater to be raffled off and proceeds to go the the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes. The dimensions are approximately 65" x 62". I think that even the back looks great.

Assembling The Cancer Resource Center Quilt

Yesterday I worked diligently on the Cancer Resource Center (CRC) quilt. To complete the quilt, I needed to three additional blocks and a border to a section. All done QAYG, of course. Since this is an emotion quilt, I wanted to add some emotional words, but subtle and let the guild members blocks shine.

 At first, I was just going to use the grey 50wt Aurifil, but then I remember I had some orange 28wt Aurifil. I think it really adds to the blocks.

 This little strip was added on to a section that I have joined. I used the same orange Aurifil to quilt the words. I've always just used 50wt, I may have to start experimenting with different weights of Aurifil.

I have the most complicated section joined. Once the all sections are done, I'll join them all together.

This is the back of the section I've joined. I like the back too!

All in all, I think the quilt is coming together nicely.

WIPping Cancer, A Benefit Quilt!

My new project that WILL be done by next week is my guild's Cancer Resource Center benefit quilt. The benefit is April 19th, sew time is short.

I got the final block yesterday, well worth the wait. She dropped it off on her way to get her stitches out from cancer surgery! As she described the block to me; a person starts out strong with energy and with each (orange) jolt of chemo you become weaker, drained of energy and knocked over. Powerful to say the least! But with all that said, Ruth is a very vibrant person and I can't imagine her staying down for long. She stayed up until 4:00 in the morning to finish this block. Bless her!

A Special Project

As some of you may know, I'm a member of the Ithaca Modern Quilt Guild. We are working on a very special quilt for the Cancer Resource Center of the Finger Lakes to be raffled off at a benefit show at the Hangar Theater on April 19th. Yikes, that's less than two weeks away. Guild members each made a quilted block that will be joined by a QAYG method. Oh yeah, and they asked me to join the blocks together. How can I say no to this fabulous group, for such a good cause?

Some blocks still need to be trimmed and I'm waiting to add one more block. So this may not be the final layout. I should have the last block tomorrow and I'll determine the final layout and start joining the blocks.

Some of the stories behind these blocks are amazing, I really need to make sure we document them.
