Making Christmas Progress: With a Bit of a Modern Twist!

Only 4 1/2 weeks 'til Christmas, but I actually have a much closer (self-imposed) deadline for some of my Christmas projects. I really want to get all 17 stockings complete before Thanksgiving, that's this Thursday! I worked like a Santa Elf yesterday and got all but two complete. YIPPEE,SKIPPEE!!!

I really like this pink group.

The great part is using up stash to make these stockings, although I'm sorry to see a lot of my Patty Young Sanctuary gone.

Making Christmas List:
1. Quilt and bind my Cubic Rhythm quilt - (4 1/2 more blocks, plus borders) - No Progress this week!
2. Mermaid pillows
3. Purple Heart Wall-hanging - no progress

4. At least 4 Christmas stockings - 15 stockings completed.

5. 2 iPad covers - 3 Spines embroidered - I work at a Chiropractic College and these are for co-workers - no progress this week

6. At least 6 potholders - no progress

7. 2 doggie mats - embroidered - no progress this week

8. 2 pillows for friends embroidered - Learned how to make buttonholes for the back

9. Several last minutes ideas that I haven't thought of yet!

Making Christmas: Embroidered Stocking Cuffs

Well I am making progress on my extensive Making Christmas List, albeit slow progress. I got two of the cuff embroidered and the other five I have the embroidery files ready to go. I have 7 stocking feet completed, but that all need a lining.

I still would like to make more stocking for the rest of the family and family pets. My goal would be to have all of the stocking completed by Thanksgiving (Nov. 24th, for those of you outside of the U.S.).  Sew here is my Making Christmas List and progress today!

Making Christmas List:
1. Quilt and bind my Cubic Rhythm quilt - Gold metallic quilting done, 1 more block quilted (4 1/2 more, plus borders)
2. Mermaid pillows

3. Purple Heart Wall-hanging - no progress

4. At least 4 Christmas stockings - 7 stockings started

Christmas Stocking Production Line

I really want to make everyone in the family (including our furry family members) a Christmas stocking with their name embroidered on the cuff. Lots more to go! Of course, I don't have any Christmas fabric (not a big fan of most of it) and I wanted them to be just a little bit more modern.

Straight line quilting (all these stockings are forcing me to get better with straight lines)!

I cut a 12" strip, width of the fabric and quilted it with just the batting, no backing. (I plan on lining the stockings.) Then I cut out the stocking from a pattern I drew free hand on a paper grocery bag. 

What do you all thing about the brown stocking? Will it work? I was thinking a pink cuff!

Try New Things (TNT) Thursday!

Christmas stockings! Yup, I know that lots of people are making them, but this will be a new thing for me and I'm linking up with Melissa at Happy Quilting for TNT Thursday. I decided that they didn't have to be made out of Christmas fabric, that some nice modern fabric might be cool.

quilted fabric, cutting both sides at once. I found a rotary cutter was faster and easier than scissors.

I plan on embroidering names on the cuffs and lining the inside. Only 16 more to go! Yikes, I best get sewing (although, the thing that took the longest was choosing the fabric!). This was a quick fun project. I'm glad I tried it!

Expanding Possibilities

I love when I feel creative! I've had ideas spinning around in my head for months regarding this new quilt, ever since I bought the fabric at Hawthorne Threads.  I've added just a bit from my own stash to round out my new quilt palette.
