Danger! The Contest Says To Pick 12 Fabrics!

Katy over at I'm A Ginger Monkey working with Pink Castle Fabrics is having a contest to pick 12 fabrics. I think that this is very dangerous! Especially for someone like me who has a serious fabric addiction. I don't care, I'm doing it anyway!

This week we have had exceptionally warm weather, almost summer like (at least for upstate NY). So when I saw Sea Garden in Summer, I decided to create my selection around that fabric. Now I have to go sew, you know, so I can make room for this fabric when I win!!! ;)

WOOHOO! Nothing As Good As A Quilt Shop Sale!

Golden Lane Fabrics, Himrod, NY - It may look small and unassuming, but it is packed with fabric goodness!

There is a little Mennonite Quilt Shop, relatively near me, that has wonderful fabric at fantastic prices all year long. But once a year in February, she has a sale on everything in the store. That sale is this week. I HAD to go! I tried to be good, but she's starting to stock more modern prints! 

11 1/4 yards of fabric, 2 yards of Insul-Bright, and a 5 pack of rotary blades, all for under $100! You can't beat that with a stick!!!

I'm off to use up some fabric, so I can make room for this!

A New Design Wall and a Little Good Fortune!

I find that one of my most important quilting tools is my design wall (with corresponding chair across from said design wall). My wall was pretty shabby, two various lengths of old white flannel tacked to the wall.

The NEW design wall fits perfect floor to ceiling and side to side! 90"H x 108"L

Tucked in just behind my fabric storage.

My NEW design wall is queen sized Warm and White batting! It was on sale at JoAnn's, 50% off! Can't wait to try it out!

In other fun news, I received a cool present in the mail yesterday, a little Good Fortune!

Try New Things (TNT) Thursday: Thick Foamy Batting (Vera Bradley Style)

I missed last week's TNT Thursday, which made me very sad. I LOVE experimenting with new things. Sew, I had to try something new this week, a new thick foamy batting to make bags, purses, iPad covers, etc.

I purchased this batting at Sew Creative in Fairport, NY. This store may look small on the outside, but it's mighty on the inside!

 

This is the purse in my giveaway (click here if you want to enter to win it. Open to entries until 12/16/11 at 8:00 p.m.) I used this batting in this purse.

The batting is just shy of a 1/4" thick and has a foamy middle covered with fabric on both sides.

I will be adding a lining, but I just quilted it with the top layer of fabric.

iPad cover (W.I.P.)

The batting adds a tremendous amount of body to the project.

The batting isn't hard to work with, a bit thick, but it gives you great results. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the batting. If I find out, I will update this post.    UPDATE: The batting is called "Soft and Stable" and Sew Creative appears to be the only local store carrying it!
