More Basting!

Whew, two quilts basted this week. Yippee!  Especially since the second quilt top has been finished since last March - see the Pantone quilt here. Let's hope it doesn't take another year to get it quilted. I'm still not sure how I'm going to quilt this.

The other quilt I got basted was my Meadows Quilt, which I'm really looking forward to quilting.

I spray basted both quilts using 1"x3"x94" boards. Click here to see my tutorial on how to spray baste with boards.

WIP Wednesday

I haven't written a WIP Wednesday post in a couple of weeks, so it will be interesting to see my progress on my list of projects.

I finished my MQG/Michael Miller Fabric Challenge quilt, quite pleased with the result. You can see and read more about this quilt here.

I also started a new project, my Modern Scottish Baby quilt. You can see and read more about it here.

One of my favorite quilt shops (Quilters Corner) had a wonderful sale recently and I finally picked out some backing fabric for my Pantone Quilt 2014. You can see and read more about it here.

At my guild meeting on Sunday, we started a block exchange. Everyone created five bags of scraps, totaling at least to a fat quarter for someone else to make a block for them. We then exchanged bags. Here's the fabric from several of my fellow guild members.

Here are this week's stats:

Fresh Sewing Day April

Happy April! I am so ready for spring. I hope it is going to come around my way soon, although today is supposed to be in the 50's. Yippee!

What the question is, what did I accomplish this month? Well, not as many finishes as February, but I have a lot of nice starts and some new quilt tops.

2. 2014 Pantone Challenge Quilt
3. Mod Olive block
4. RMQG QAYG Demo sample

A Weekend of Sewing

Well, the weather here is back to winter. I guess that means more sewing, so not such a bad thing. I finally got started on my Mod Olives project, after everyone else has finished theirs. I must say I really like it.
I struggled a bit with it, but I think the next one will be easier, especially if I keep working on it.

I also finished off quilting the trees on my Tree quilt.

I'm quite pleased with how the trees turned out. I'm ready to move on to the next section of quilting, I just need to order some more Aurifil # 5004 grey thread before I run out.

And speaking of yummy Aurifil thread, my Pantone quilt top won the Pantone Challenge. Yippee, Skippee, I have some Aurifil thread coming my way! Check out the other winners On the Windy Side.

WIP Wednesday

I love WIP Wednesday, it forces me to step back and see my progress when I think I have none.

Tree Quilt
RMQG Sample

I didn't have much time to sew last night, so I decided to work on something simple, the little sample I put together for the RMQG QAYG demonstration. I think it will make a really cute wall hanging.

I also got my Tree quilt basted and started quilting it this week.

So, I didn't set the world on fire with my progress, but I did make progress on my projects.

Here are this week's stats:
In-process: (7)
Express Your Love
Humphrey's New Bed
Mod Ovals Quilt
Pantone Quilt 2014
IMQG Guild Block (reverse applique')
RMQG QAYG Samples

FMQ Trees

I didn't have a lot of time this weekend to spend quilting, but last night I did have a few minutes. Since my Tree quilt is ready to quilt, I thought I would give it a go.

Quilted with Aurifil 5004. I just love quilting with this thread!

I had to practice a bit before I got to the quilt, make sure my tension was set properly.

Which, I'm glad I did take the time to practice first. My tension was bit off, but I got it sorted out and practice quilting a tree.

WIP Wednesday

This is one of those Wednesday's that I sit here at my computer and wonder what the heck did I do this week. I know I sewed quite a bit, but what do I have to show for it.

Well, for one, I started and finished a quilt top and back and it's ready to baste.  This is my Tree quilt, which doesn't really resemble a tree, YET. The quilting I have planning for it will have a tree theme.

I made up this sample as a demo for QAYG that I did last night for the Rochester Modern Quilt Guild (RMQG). That was lots of fun to do. I think that I might finish up this sample and use it as a little wall hanging in my office.

I also did an unusual photo shoot with my Pantone Challenge quilt. The statue 'When Anthony met Stanton' (Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Bloomer and Elizabeth Cady Stanton) stands on a corner in Seneca Falls, NY. I might have to use that setting again, it's like they were made to hold quilts.

2014 Pantone Quilt Challenge: Radiant Orchid

'When Anthony Met Stanton' Seneca Falls, NY (Left to right: Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Bloomer, Elizabeth Cady Stanton)
I thought it was awfully nice of Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Amelia Bloomer to hold and admire my newest quilt top. I thought it was fitting for these fine women to hold this modern graphic quilt. After all Amelia Bloomer was a dress reformer and as my husband said this quilt is a little 'edgy'.

The quilt top measures 57"x 85" a nice sized throw. It would be absolutely wonderful, if I could quilt it with some yummy Aurifil thread ;)

The design is my own, inspired from a graphic print I saw on Pinterest.

Snow Day, Sew Day!!!!

Spring should be springing, but no, we are supposed to get 10" or more inches of snow today. My father always said that some of the worst snow storms happen in March. The best part, a day off and time to sew.

Sew this is what I accomplished this week.

I finished my casserole carrier, pretty happy with it.

I created some samples for the RMQG QAYG demonstration that I was supposed to do tonight, but it's been cancelled :(

I finished the top of my Pantone Quilt 2014

Now I need to get back to sewing!!!!

WIP Wednesday: Still Cold, Still Quilting!!!!!

Another week in the arctic blast zone - teens and single digits. I realize that I live in the north and winter should be cold, but by this time of year the temps should start to be above freezing during the day and below freezing at night. How else are we going to get maple syrup?????

The good thing about this weather is that I have been quilting. Oh yes, for the third week in a row, I have finished another quilt on the WIP list, Charming Squares. I will have full pictures on Friday, but here's a sneak peek.
I've always loved pictures of quilts rolled up, just showing the binding!

I've also gotten a little more done on my Pantone quilt 2014.

I just have to finish the top two blocks and then carefully sew them all together matching up the stripes. I'm really quite pleased with how graphic this quilt is turning out. I keep thinking about how it would look with other color combinations. Might be fun to play around with some different colors and sizes.

I've also been playing around with how to quilt this thing.

I'm not sure I like this, I might have to do a little more fiddling around and trying some different options.

WIPping it Up!

Well last week I finished my Grandma's quilt and this week I finished my Red Window quilt. I like the red binding. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can get some good pictures of it for a Friday finish post.

And since I have taken two quilts off my WIP list in the last two weeks, you know I have to put a new one on. I started a 2014 Pantone quilt challenge quilt in radiant orchid. I'm pretty excited about this quilt so far.

The bottom two blocks are 28" x 28", so I will only need six blocks in total.  It's going pretty quickly, although it would have been quicker if I had used a Jelly Roll. I think before I'm done it will take about 84 - 2 1/2" WOF strips. LOTS of cutting, but a very graphic effect.

Radiant Orchid - Pantone Color of the Year Quilt Challenge

The other day I stumbled upon the Pantone Color of the Year Quilt Challenge hosted by On the Windy Side and Play Crafts. This year's color is Radiant Orchid.

2014 Pantone Quilt Challenge: Radiant Orchid
Of course, this is the actual Pantone swatch, so it doesn't exactly match my fabric, but I think it's pretty close.

My fabric is a pretty bright purple, hopefully close to the correct color.

Here is the start to my quilt, the first two blocks.

Each block is 28 inches square. I'm planning on six blocks.
Anyway, I'm kind of excited about this quilt - very graphic, I think.

I'm linking up with a Quilt Story for Fabric Tuesday and Free-Motion by the River for Linky Tuesday.
