Trifecta - Three Finishes

I might not have been blogging lately, but that doesn't mean I haven't been quilting. I have three projects that have been hanging around far too long, they are now finished.

The first project is a Leah Day panel I purchased from Spoonflower.

I have finished quilting eons ago, I just needed to finish it with a facing. I read abut how to do it, been told it was easy and still I procrastinated.

 I don't know why I so stubbornly avoided doing a facing, it was easy. I followed the tutorial at Silly BooDilly blog. 

The second project was a guild challenge to take a traditional block and make it modern. I chose an Ohio Star.

The guidelines were to make it 24" wide by any length. So I made the star with an improv method.

 I had to add a few bits of my favorite things; corgis and horses.

 I also used the facing technique on this project also.

My third project was my Lizzy House Meadow Quilt; Galloping through the Meadow.

 Simon really wanted in on the action. He is quite photogenic.

WIP Wednesday

Thanks to another snow day on Monday, I was able to get a little more quilting done on my Galloping through the Meadows quilt.

 All of the teal flower centers are now quilted - lots and lots of pebbles. I also have all of the white flowers outlined.

 I have stitched two horses in the navy. I think they will standout a lot more once I quilt more densely around them.

I used Quilters Dream Wool batting and Aurifil 50wt thread. This project is a dream to quilt.

Horse Play

 I had horses and rode in my younger years. Maybe I will ride again someday. Now that I quilt, it has only been a matter of time before I incorporated them into a quilt. This is my "Galloping Through the Meadow Quilt".

I found this large hoop (24" diameter) in my garage. It came with the house. It was just perfect to use it to mark my quilt with this 18" horse. Click here if you want to see my tutorial on this marking technique.


Instead of using white tulle, I used black and a silver Sharpie. Once it's on the tulle, I used a chalk pencil to transfer it on the quilt.

SNOW DAY, SEW DAY!!!!!

It has "Over Snowed", more than fourteen inches. The best part, I got a snow day! Love working in education.

 Needless to say, this gives me time to quilt. I started FMQing my Meadow Quilt.

More Basting!

Whew, two quilts basted this week. Yippee!  Especially since the second quilt top has been finished since last March - see the Pantone quilt here. Let's hope it doesn't take another year to get it quilted. I'm still not sure how I'm going to quilt this.

The other quilt I got basted was my Meadows Quilt, which I'm really looking forward to quilting.

I really am back to quilting and blogging, Monday's post was not a fluke. I'm actually feeling inspired to quilt.

I finished up my Meadow's quilt top.

I love how this quilt is turning out. I think it's going to look wonderful on this bed.  Now I'm on to making the back and it this baby basted!

Hello Again

WOW, really didn't mean to be gone from blogging for so long, but the holidays just sort of "ate" my time. I ended up making 14 sets of potholders (28 total) for Christmas presents. That's like making a whole quilt! Heck, I didn't even get pictures of them.

Finally, this weekend I started back on my Meadows quilt. I got all of the blocks pieced together.

I plan on added large panels of the navy blue so that it will end up fitting this bed. Ooooo, that means there will be lots of negative space to "quilt the snot out of it".

I'm really pleased with this quilt so far. I promise to be back regularly.

Galloping Through the Meadow Quilt

I finally finished piecing all of the blocks in my Galloping Through the Meadow quilt. Now I need to square up my blocks and join them.

I started this quilt way back in September at a Lizzy House workshop. I've had it all cut out for well over a month now and it has been on my design wall taunting me to work on it. So this weekend I bit the bullet and pieced all 20 blocks. Once all of the blocks are joined, I will be adding navy panels around the sides to make it large enough for a full sized bed. I've been dreaming of ways to quilt this, maybe some hoof prints will show up!

Cut To Pieces

I do love fall, the start of serious sewing season. I worked on two different quilts this weekend, my MQG/Michael Miller challenge and my Galloping thru the Meadow quilt. I'm not ready to show you my challenge quilt, it needs some serious changes made...time for the seam ripper! But my Meadow quilt, I'm quite pleased. I have all of the pieces cut and the flower centers pieced. Yippee, skippee!!!

The outer edge is navy, not black! Really hard to take great pictures with it still dark in the morning!

Only the first two blocks are pieced and with the curved pieces the rest will take some time. But so far, I am really pleased with how this quilt is turning out. Love the fabrics and the colors.

Galloping Through The Meadow

I'm pretty excited to be moving right along on my Meadow quilt. I haven't been this jazzed about a quilt in a long time. Just the first two blocks are actually sewn together, but just getting all of this cut is quite an accomplishment for me. I'm not a huge fan of cutting.

The background is actually navy, although it looks black in the picture.

The "eyeball" flower petals are in progress.

I think the Cotton and Steel "Mustang" fabric is starting to inspire some quilting ideas. I do love horses. I used to ride a long time ago.

Hmmm, makes me want to ride again. I guess I will have to settle for quilting some horse motifs.

Lizzy House's Meadow Quilt

What fun, what fun! I got to take Lizzy House's Meadow Quilt class on Friday. If you don't know who Lizzy House is, she is a fabric designer, among many other talented artistic talents. She also designed a very cool quilt she calls the Meadow.

Isn't this a gorgeous quilt!!!!  I had to learn how to make this quilt and the Rochester MQG was sponsoring the class. Yippee, Skippee!!!

 Lizzy is a wonderful teacher. She kept the class on track and explained so many details.

 She gave us the templates for this quilt with the express understanding that we will not share the pattern in any way. This was just for our use. Since she is not going to sell this quilt pattern, the only way to make a Meadow quilt is to take her class. So if you get the chance, you really need to do it.

 She was even kind enough to pose for pictures.

I got two blocks done in class, but have been working on it this weekend. It's kind of addicting.

Once the rest of the navy fabric around the outside of this is on, it will be the size for a double bed. Don't you love the Cotton and Steel "Mustangs".  Hopefully it will be done the next time my friend Kate comes to visit, she's a horse person. I think she will love to sleep under it.
