UFO Sunday

Last week Leah asked us to review what we have accomplished through UFO Sunday.  I was actually impressed with how much I have actually gotten done.

The Library quilt was the very first UFO I listed. It is now complete!

The flag pillow actually was not a UFO, but it was made in response to the wonderful feedback I received about my grandson's ruined Flag quilt.

Expanding Possibilities with miles of thread in the FMQ!

I looked back at all of the projects that I have made this year and updated my 2012 projects page - 21 projects completed this year (and hopefully two more before the year is done). That's almost two projects a month!

I have also made significant progress on my Purple Heart quilt and my Storybook #2 quilt. And speaking of my Storybook # 2 quilt, it's quilted!!!

Here is a view of the back of the blocks, so you can see the quilting a little better. I'm quite pleased with my swirls.

 

Now to trim, join, border and bind (and then of course label). I just might make it by Christmas!

Sew all in all, I'm feeling pretty good about this year. I bit more productive than I would have thought I was. And speaking of productive, we have our 2nd Ithaca Modern Quilt Guild meeting today from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Quilters Corner.

Fresh Sewing Day December

Wow, last month of the year (and last month forever, if you believe the crazy Mayan Calendar interpretation). I wish my November work was a little more impressive, if that's the case, but at least I finished a quilt this month!

Sew Cal Gal October FMQ Challenge

Well, I didn't get blown away last night with Sandy. For all of you (and your loved ones) that are in harms way, my thoughts and prayers are with you.

We haven't lost power (YET), which is a bit surprising, we normally lose power at the drop of a hat. I guess we were too prepared, we had the generator set up and ready to go. I took the opportunity to work on my Sew Cal Gal FMQ challenge for October.

 I really tried hard to reach outside of my comfort zone with this month's challenge. Teri Lucas challenged us to try different threads and different materials. I had a bit of wool batting, that I have never used, so I used it. I like it!

 I also tried a lot of different threads! I was pretty successful with all but one of them.

12wt cotton sulky

King Tut cotton (not sure of the weight, but heavier than I'm used to)

Yenmet Metallic (Humphrey is my dog. He said he needed a little attention)

Not sure what this thread is, the label is gone. It was heavier than the 12wt Sulky. This was the only thread I could not get to stitch without issues.

A lot of these threads were older, many of them had been my mother's thread. They all performed well above my expectations. What surprised me the most was the silk thread, I really like how well that stitched.

UPDATE: The first meeting of the Ithaca Modern Quilt Guild, that was scheduled for tonight, has been move to 1:00 p.m. this Sunday (November 4th) at Quilters Corner.
