New Quilt Top Done!

The other day I realized that I didn't have any quilt tops waiting in the wings to quilt. I tend to piece so I can get to the fun part free-motion quilting. I will need some simple quilts to practice with, if I do get the Baby Lock Tiara that I was looking at the other day.

I plan on backing it with dark brown fleece. It will make a comfy throw.

Baby Lock Tiara Doodles

I haven't had a chance to do much quilting this month, but yesterday I went to one of my favorite local quilt shops (Quilters Corner) and tried out the Baby Lock Tiara. I think I'm in love, what a cool machine. It's so much easier to quilt on this than a domestic machine, yet I still have the control for dense quilting.

Here is the sample I quilted.

I think that I have to play with the tension, the back doesn't look quite as good as I want it to.

I plan on working up in my sewing room today. It feels good to have time to play - and maybe plan were to put this new baby!

Gifting Some Mug Rugs

I actually finished three of the seven mug rugs I made a week or so ago and forgot to take pictures. My world is a little hectic at the moment, but I did remember to take pictures of the last four mug rugs.

These are for my co-workers, I do hope they like them.

I know they love my husband's homemade peanut brittle. I also used Insul-Bright in the mug rugs so that they can also be used as trivets or even pot-holders.

So, I am linking up with Making Christmas at Rainbow Hare Quilts.

What Do You Think?

I finally finished FMQ the last six squares on my Charming Squares quilt.

So the question becomes: What should I do for the border? I'd like to keep it fresh and modern, but I'm not sure what that means for this quilt. Should I quilt some funky feathers, then echo or should I continue out the alternating "squares" into the border so that it doesn't really look like a border? What do you think? Or something else entirely?

I'm looking forward to hearing what you think!

Into the Light

To say that this past week was hard, would be an understatement. My 87 year old father passed into the light Friday night. He had lived independently and on his own terms until the last week. My brother and I got to tell him we loved him and we got to say goodbye. In my world, I consider that to be pretty much a perfect end to a strong and beautiful life. I love him to pieces and I know that he is still with me. I have a very strong network of family and friends that lift me up. I am so blessed.

Part of that support network is my quilt guild (Ithaca Modern Quilt Guild). They are an amazing group of people. Yesterday we got to do a trunk show of our quilts at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center. WOW, that was so much fun and just what my soul needed. Schweinfurth hosts the Quilts = Art = Quilts juried show each year at this time and also host QBL (Quilting by the Lake) in the summer.

Fresh Sewing Day December

Okay, who stole November from me??? This month flew by and I'm not ready for December. I did some stitching this month on my Charming Squares quilt - almost done, but not quite.

I have a feeling that December isn't going to be much calmer, but I can always squeeze some sewing in.

I'm linking up with Lynne and Lily's Quilts for Fresh Sewing Day December!
