Teaching Old Dogs New Tricks

Sometimes you can teach an old dog new tricks. I have my quilt guild meeting today and I'm doing a mini tutorial on how to make my Gothic Windows block.
I designed this block about a year ago and did a tutorial for it (check out my Tutorial page), but I've always wanted to condense it down into a short, printable, downloadable document. I finally took the time to learn how to do that! Voila! Gothic Windows download PDF  I have also linked it under the online tutorial.

I have also been working on my Elephant quilt. There is a LOT of quilting on a queen size quilt. The navy panel is three yards (108") X  WOF (42").

3 yards of navy!

Time to Start a New Quilt

I have been diligently working on whittling down my WIP and UFO's. It is time to start a new project! So last night I decided to play around with a few design options.

Two-toned Gothic geese! Each side is a different color .
This is a play on the Gothic geese I made for my Gothic Windows block and my Rose Window block (click on either one to see a tutorial on how they are made)

I was pretty pleased with the two-toned effect. Here is a sneak peek at the fabric for this new quilt. If feels so good to be starting something new!

WIPping Along!

If you are looking for my hand-dyed fabric giveaway, click here (enter daily until Sunday, May 13th)!
Giving away three 1/2 yard pieces of hand-dyed fabric

I finished FMQ the last four blocks on Quokka Quilts QAYGFMQQAL, YAHOO!
Except for the Corgi (in honor of my dog Humphrey), all of the other FMQ designs are from Leah Day's Free Motion Quilting Project.

I also finished FMQ the border on my Storybook Quilt! I'm hoping to have that done in time for the Spring 2012 Quilt Bloggers Festival.

Not like I don't have enough projects started, I decided I really want to create 3 blocks for the Modern Quilt Guild's QuiltCon block challenge.  Part of the challenge is to use a specific set of colors.
Fat Quarters from Che' FAB - a division of Cherrywood Fabrics.

So this is my first block, I'm calling it Rose Window.
Rose Window, a variation on my Gothic Window block. The block was created with 3.5" strips - 12.5" x 12.5" block
I plan I sharing a tutorial on how to make this block, tomorrow on TNT Thursday.

Other exciting news, I have Jenny Pedigo from Sew Kind of Wonderful (and Jenny's Doodling Needle) as my guest blogger for Quilty Embellishment Day (QED on the 15th)! Jenny is incredibly talented long arm quilter and quilt designer. She is the one that invented the quick curve ruler!

QuiltCon Block Challenge Sneak Peak!

QuiltCon, presented by the Modern Quilt Guild (MQG), is having a block challenge. Somehow I just can't pass up a good challenge. Make and submit up to three "modern" quilt blocks using the colors in the QuiltCon logo.
Che' Fab, part of Cherrywood Fabrics, has made up special fat quarter bundles just for this challenge.

Isn't this just scrumptious??!!

This block is going to be a new twist....
...on my Gothic Windows block...the Rose Window
Original Gothic Windows Block
I will be sharing the new "Rose Window" block on Thursday with a tutorial.

Also, I will be participating in round two of Charm About You's Fugly Fabric Giveaway starting Tuesday, with what I think is some Not so fugly hand dyed fabric. So please stay tuned...fun stuff a coming!
