Sunny Sunday Pictures of a Finished Quilt!

Finally a sunny day to take some final pictures of my cubic rhythm quilt! Big firsts with this quilt: 1. first quilt I've quilted, 63" x 63" (loving FMQ). 2. Used metallic thread for the first time. 3. Spray basted the quilt. 4. Used bamboo batting! 5. Used my mom's fabric stash for the whole top. 6. Ready before Christmas!

Happy Sunday! And if all goes as planned I will be participating in Sew, Mama, Sew's giveaway tomorrow!

WIP Wednesday # 8: Finally Some Finishes

Yes, I finished my Cubic Rhythm quilt this week! Yippee, Skippee! I also finish 2 dog mats for my step-daughter's little princesses Rosie and Violet! Sew, not a bad week!
Approx. 63" x 63"

Traditional feathers

"Hooked" feathers

Batting was a bamboo/organic cotton blend.

Binding was the same as the last border. I used the glue instead of pin trick to machine stitch the binding. The back was a extra wide wild  batik (to hide some of my not so lovely stitching)
Although there are a few oops, I'm pretty happy with the quilting (first time I quilted a quilt).

Dog mats made from 2 fat quarters, machine embroidered, FMQed and bound.
So the stats for the week:

In-process: (4)
Hip to be Square FMQ sampler (still at 14 out of 30 blocks quilted)
Purple heart wall hanging (nope)
Expanding Possibilities quilt (nope)
Turtle pillow - (need to quilt and assemble).

New projects in the cue to start: (3)
FLMQG solids challenge crib quilt (Not started)
New Wave quilt (not started)
Friend's baby quilt - fabric picked out!

Projects completed this week: (3)
Cubic Rhythm quilt completed!!!!
2 dog mats completed.

Eye Candy for a Quilter Balanced by Pay It Forward!

I was a very bad girl! But Hawthorne Threads had some really good deals on Cyber Monday. How could I say no???
Luscious Fabric! (No specific projects in mind, I just like it.)
Okay, so I will try to balance the decadence with something good. My friend Lisa at A Day in the Life of Raising Six Munchkins started a Pay It forward. I have seen this on some other blogs and I really like the idea. Lisa will make something for the first three people who comment on her post (only 2 right now, so go visit her) and send it to them sometime within the next year. That person will then send 3 handmade items to three people and so on. I love this idea.

Now for a sneak peek at my quilt, Cubic Rhythm. I made good progress yesterday.

I'm Hooked On Feathers!

The other day I was on Amazon and this book "accidentally" slipped into my shopping cart. Some of you might not have realized that I'm kind of obsessed at the moment with FMQ feathers. Now that I have my "big" machine back from being repaired, I can get back to quilting my cubic rhythm quilt (which I hope to give as a Christmas present!) With traditional feathers, there is a lot of travel stitching (going over the top of existing stitches) and it makes quite "dense". With the technique in Hooked on Feathers by Sally Terry, there is no travel stitching, it it literally stitching "hooks". All you do is stitch a hook, then pivot back.

The basic design.

Design variations

Amazing what you can do with this simple technique.

I had a lot of fun with different variations to the "hook"

Adding a few ribbons

Varying the size of the hook
This was sew easy! And I think it looks pretty cool. Now I'm off to finish my cubic rhythm quilt.
