Gardening and Quilting

The perennial bed

Well, summer's here in upstate NY. How do I know?? Because it was 90's last week and 60's this week. AAAHHH, life in the Finger Lakes. All the gardens are weeded, pruned and mulched (4 1/2 cubic yards), which is no small task. I also dug up a ton of perennials and put in shrubs.

New front shrubs.

Not to worry, I still have been quilting every night on my Make It Right challenge quilt. Although I'm STILL not done, I'm almost there. Here's some pictures from the back side.

I'm linking up with A Quilt Story for Fabric Tuesday and Free Motion by the River for Linky Tuesday.

  3. i am listening to the words of advice my friend mike said to me severals years ago..."give your head a shake sherry you ARE NOT a gardener, do what you are good at...go quilt..." so my words of advice are "plant more shrubs and go have coffee at a gardening friend's house and get your fill of gardens there"

  6. Your garden looks great! I really miss all of the trees in NY.

I'd feel sorrier for you about the 90 degree thing, but it usually only breaks 90 a few times a summer there, so maybe you're already done with that part! :) It's been unseasonably cool (mid-70s) in Nebraska since I've been back, and I can't say I've minded! It will switch to the blast furnace soon enough.

  7. That quilting is some great eye candy! And your gardens too! I have been planting and mulching as well, but it is slow growin' at 7500'.

  11. Oh. My. Goodness! You have made me jealous! Well, not really, because it looks like you worked so hard for it, but your garden is beautiful! I was just getting somewhere with my garden at my house when my Father asked me to come stay with him. My daughter ahs taken up where I left off, and I get to start all over here! You have given me some inspiration. Thank you!
The back of that quilt looks fabulous! Now I want to see the front.

  12. Nice! Feel free to come by and do my yard anytime. It's kind of a mess - I hate outside. Looking forward to the finished quilt!
