So this year's goal is to make some of those quilts and UFO Sunday will be my push to get going on some of them.
My current project, the koi pond quilt, is one of those quilts. I picked up this fabric last summer on a trip to Keepsake Quilting. I mean, how can anyone go to Keepsake and not buy fabric??? Well, I digress. So I've started this quilt to use this fabric, no new fabric was purchased in the creation of this quilt. I have the top completed, now onto the back. Again, I had the backing fabric in the stash, although not purchased at the same time. I wanted something to reflect the koi theme on the front, but more abstract.
I'm kind of liking the the simplicity of the back. I have more of the navy fabric to add on to the top part.

On another topic, today is our third meeting for the Ithaca Modern Quilt Guild. I'm pretty excited how well this seems to be going. We are going to set a schedule for projects and demos we want to do. Yippee, Skippee!!
Linking up with Leah Day for UFO Sunday!

I'm with you on this one. I have as many USOs as UFOs ...a startling number of each. I also have a quilt's worth from my trip to Keepsake Quilting that was supposed to be a memorial quilt for a 5000 mile road trip with the family. Ummm but the last time I was in NH was 7 years ago.
ReplyDeleteIf I remember correctly I have three kits and at least two jelly rolls (with matching fabrics for the borders) waiting for my attention and unstarted! It's quite scary!
ReplyDeleteSo funny! I was actually looking for something in my sewing room this weekend and found at least 3 stacks of fabric purchased for a specific quilt I absolutely needed to make... 2 years ago! :-). Your koi looks fabulous by the way.
ReplyDeletei like that little koi it would look great if you FMQ'd it
ReplyDeleteI like your abstract back. I can definitely see it as koi swimming in a pond.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you do the embroidery of the koi BEFORE adding the backing? I would just pin the batting in place, then cover the embroidery area with muslin or even just some stabilizer. Stitch out your design, then sandwich the entire quilt. That way, the "mess" will be on the inside, and you will have a gorgeous quilt without the knotted mess showing.
ReplyDeleteI am soo jealous about your not having any UFOs! I like the Koi and also that you are combining free motion and machine embroidery. It will soon be finished and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I'm pretty proud of keeping my UFOs to a minimum. USOs, on the other, hand...I never thought much about them. Uh-oh! Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed meeting you and seeing your koi quilt in person today! I can hardly wait until next month's meeting!
ReplyDeleteWow, your koi is so beautiful! And a year of USOs is a great idea ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd here I have been bragging about not having any a UFO's. I do have a kit I bought, could it be 15 years ago? Gulp! to make a vest complete with fabric and beads. Still not motivated to make it. Good for you for tackling your USO's.
ReplyDeleteSo excited to see what projects you will be tackling this year. I am going to continue to to tackle the UFOs. Not out of the woods yet. Happy NY!
ReplyDeleteI had exactly the same thing in my mind. And started 2013 Boot camp Sundays:

Each month I am planning to have a plan for piecing.
Its great to see that you have the same goal for this year. Like your name USOs.
