My New Year's Plan

Well, I've been thinking about this for a while now, but I think I will be ordering my new Baby Lock Tiara today. I spent several hours on New Year's Eve playing with the demo machine at Quilters Corner.

Look how much room there is to stitch. No more fighting to get to the middle of the quilt.

This is so FMQ I did on my Goddess (Express Your Love) Quilt. There is a learning curve, but I think it will be manageable.

More FMQ on my Goddess Quilt

28wt Aurifil thread. I couldn't get this through my Pfaff without it breaking every few inches. It ran through the BL Tiara like butter! Imagine how cool it would be to use this on a whole quilt.
The Baby Lock Tiara is a sit-down long arm quilter (all it does is free-motion quilting). It has a 16" throat deep and 8.25" high. You can stuff a lot of quilt in this machine. Some of my quilty friends have asked why I just don't get a traditional long-arm on a frame; 1. I don't have the space for one (frames are about 12 feet long) and 2. I don't want to stand and quilt my quilts, I would think that would be hard on my back and shoulders. I chose the BL Tiara because of the dealer, Quilters Corner has exceptional service. So, stay tuned, she should be here in about two weeks. Yippee, Skippee!

I'm linking up with Leah Day for the first FMQ Friday of the year!

  4. Wow - what a great gift to yourself :) I've been thinking along the lines of one of these too. I'll look forward to seeing what you think of it and getting jealous of the things you can do with it :)

  5. Congrats on getting a new machine. I'm sure you will love quilting on it. I just bought a Juki TL2010Q and it runs like a dream (straight stitch only).

  7. Between you and another couple of quilty friends I might be convinced to get one of these "sit down" longarms.

  9. Super exciting...we all seem to be on the same wave length. I also have been eyeing out those machines for some time but the price is quite prohibitive over here...I was looking at the Sweet 16. Also saw that Pfaff has brought out something similar...did you have a look at all the different machines or just the Babylock one?

Very happy for you and wishing you a very productive and fun-filled New Year.

  10. I have to say if there was any sit down longarm that tempted me, the Tiara would be it! I've found it wonderfully big and the speed limiter quite useful. I didn't like the speed regulator, but found that if I kept the motor limited to 25% of it's normal power, I had the exact same feel as my regular machines. Good luck with your future baby!
